About Us

History of Easts Touch

The current Eastern Suburbs Touch Association was formed in 1985. The previous competition disaffiliated from NSWTA in 1984 resulting in Representative teams not being able to compete in NSWTA State run tournaments. The Representative players knew they needed to establish a new Association in order to still play at representative level, which was foremost in their minds. They began the competition with 4 Mixed teams in order to qualify as an affiliate.

With support from the NSWTA, this was the origins of one of the largest Touch competitions in NSW today. We are a non-professional, “not-for-profit” organization. We encourage and have participants and volunteers from all walks of the community.

Eastern Suburbs Touch Association provides the largest Touch Football Competition in NSW.  Participants  compete in both our Junior and Senior Competitions. Our Senior Competitions are held year round. The Summer competition runs from October until March and Winter starting in April until August.

The local Schools competition started in 2000. A gap was realised by the schools trying to organise new and exciting options espcially for the compulsory Saturday sports program within the Independant schools. A competition was started on Saturday mornings for the Independant schools with limited numbers and now runs in Terms 1 & Term 4 each year at two venues. A second competition was created for local schools on Tuesday afternoons. Games are played at Queens in Terms 1 & Term 4 each year.

In 2002, Eastern Suburbs started a small Junior touch competition that comprised of approximately 6 teams. The juniors were mainly the children whose parents played Touch. In 2005, we were able to secure the booking at Rowland Park. Word got out about our sport and in 2010, we had approximately 102 teams entered in the Rowland park competition. From a parents point of view, the most important factors for their choice of Touch was that the competition was non competitive (and always will be). Player ages range from 4 to 14. Our competition was an introduction for those children prior to playing competitively in most High Schools. This competition is used a as a pathway for players wanting to play Junior State Cup.

As well as players, we have a vested interest in the development of referees. In 2010, we have been able to run a referees course for children from local schools. They were able to practice refereeing in our Junior Competition in a non-competitive environment.
